Volume 16, Issue 3
Greetings Sewists,
I hope that everyone has enjoyed their summer. It’s hard to believe that autumn is here, isn’t it? Perhaps now is a good time to start thinking of Fall and Winter projects.
I just returned from “Sewcial Escape” in Chattanooga, our first regional sewing conference. We had four national educators and four classes ending on Sunday morning at which time we all shared the opportunity to show off our work. Five of our chapter members joined me there, which added even more to my enjoyment of the event.
Our own chapter’s Sewcation (October 21 thru 23rd) is quickly approaching so if you haven’t already reserved your place, do it now. It’s always a fun time and a great opportunity to jump on our Holiday projects.
Our sixteenth Annual Meeting will take place on November 8. As always, we will have a luncheon, followed by a guest speaker. So mark it on your calendars.
Looking farther ahead, our annual Holiday Party will be held on December 5.
On a sad note, we have lost two special ladies, Anne Copeland and more recently, Paris Harrison.Their smiles and laughter will be sorely missed. It reminds me that life is indeed short, and we should take advantage of every opportunity to enjoy our hobby and each other’s company.

Community Service Report 3rd Quarter 2025
My contact at DSS has informed me that thanks to our past generosity, she will not be needing Christmas stockings or tote bags for a while. What she does need however, is warm hats and scarves. She can also use socks for the kids. So if you can donate any of these items, she would be grateful. They service kids from all ages, so size does not matter. We will also continue to make and donate chemo caps.
This past quarter, we have donated 54 tote bags, 28 hats, and 5 doll outfits to DSS. 76 hats were donated to Sharing House in Asheville. 12 chemo caps were delivered to Bon Secours Cancer Center.
So for now, we will concentrate on hats and scarves for DSS and chemo caps for Bon Secours Cancer Center. Again, all your generosity and efforts for these worthy projects are greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,

We had 2 summer workshops and had good turnouts for kids and with helpers. Using squares donated by sewing guild members the sewers learned to piece and quilt They then picked different animals to make. There were frogs cats bunnies horses and a cow. Some of our returning sewers are much more independent and confident with their projects Both sewers and helpers had a good time

At the September meeting I reviewed the test I did of the Perfect Rectangle Basket pattern by Sew Can She (attached pattern and pictures)tions are good. I used canvas for the lining and quilting cotton for the exterior. The sides aren’t very firm so of the next one I plan on using canvas for the outer and inner layers and maybe some interfacing as a stiffener. The pattern can be found here: https://sewcanshe.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Perfect-Rectangle-Basket-Optimized-for-Printing.pdf"
